Everything you want to know about radiant heating
Why is a radiant heating system right for me?
The comfort you'll experience from a radiant heating system is simply unmatched. Your home will maintain a consistent, comfortable temperature all winter long. We can control your new system room by room if you'd like. It's perfect for couples who sometimes disagree on what's the perfect temperature!
In addition to its superior comfort, radiant heating is also cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and energy-efficient. We've watched it save homeowners up to 30%, and commercial property owners up to 60%, on their heating bills. A radiant heating system pays for itself in fuel savings. Why pay more for fuel than you have to?
Radiant heating is safe and healthy. Radiant heating systems give out a constant, gentle, and comfortable temperature. You never have to worry about your children or pets getting burned by this system. Radiant heating will also provide you with better indoor-air quality. Do you find your skin drying out during the winter months? Does you home get dusty? Instead of blowing warm air around the room, creating those dry conditions and all that dust, radiant heating gently warms surface areas, and you, without making a mess.
A radiant heating system will increase your property value. Radiant heating operates quietly (and invisibly) beneath floors, behind walls, and over ceilings, giving you more living space and improving the aesthetics of your home or commercial space. Radiant heating is also extremely durable and built to last.
What is radiant heating?
Unlike traditional heating systems that warm the air, radiant heating gently warms surface areas. We circulate warmed water through tough, durable tubing, which we'll install beneath your floor, in your walls, or on top of your ceiling. The heat then transfers or "radiates" to warm both the surfaces and you. Other types of heating systems focus on heating the air. The surfaces stay cold in those buildings, and those cold surfaces pull heat away from the body, making you uncomfortable. The gentle warmth of a radiant heating system surrounds you with a subtle, soothing warmth that no forced-air system can match. You're going to love it.
What kind of products do you use?
Only the best! We use the highest-quality, best-in-class products from leading industry suppliers. No! Not only are wood floors perfectly safe for radiant heating, but they're also perfectly suited for it. You can feel the gentle warmth flowing from the surface of the wood. And remember, radiant heating systems use warm—not hot—water, so it won't feel like you're walking on a bed of hot coals. The wood thinks the sun is shining on it through a picture window.
As for warping and bending the wood floors, that sort of damage can happen when wood expands because of excessive moisture in the wood and humidity in the air. Radiant heating doesn't emit the steam or vapor that can cause water damage, and we check to make sure the wood is just right before we do any installation.
With the right radiant heating-system design, and the correct selection and proper installation of the wood flooring, there's no need for concern. We know what we're doing, and we've done it over and over again, and successfully. Don't worry!
How long does it take to install a radiant heating system?
That depends on the size and scope of each job. A simple radiant heating installation takes about as long as it would take to install a new floor.
Can you install radiant heating only under a room's floor?
Nope, we can also install it in the walls or in the ceilings. And we can install suspended floors and sub-floors as well. The flexibility of the system is ideal for older homes, so there's no need to tear up the original flooring. We have so many options for you, and they're all proven.
• The amount of energy your current heating system uses.
• The type of boiler you currently have and when it was installed.
• The square footage per room(s) that can accommodate the radiant tubing.
• The number of outside walls and windows in the room where you'd like radiant heating.
For outdoor snow-and-ice melting (SIM) systems, we'll look at:
• The square footage of the area to be cleared
• The type of surface (concrete, asphalt, or pavers)
• The proper, and most-economical boiler size for both house-heating and snowmelt.
